“You know what, I think he had a great career — not a big fan,” Beltrán said bluntly. “In the game of baseball, you could play hard, but when you play dirt y, it’s a different element. You could play hard, I played hard. I slide hard. But I try to keep myself down. Sometimes, he did things that the way we look at it, we felt was dirty. That’s my opinion, and I bet you will find many opinions like that in the game. So it’s not only my opinion.

But my goal i s not to kill the catcher, my goal is to try to score the run. If you’re trying to break up a double play, then slide into the bag. And if you want to pass thr ough the bag, make sure you stay holding the bag. But when you change your route or your path to hit somebody, that’s not clean.”

「我打球很拚，但我不會試圖傷害其他人。有時候在本壘前，捕手會擋在我前面，我完全可以直接撞倒他。但我的目標不是撞傷捕手，我的目標是設法回本壘得分。如果你想破壞對手的雙殺，那就朝著壘包滑壘。如果你想衝過壘包，那也要確保自己依然可以碰到壘包。但當你改變自己的跑壘路線或滑壘方向是為了去撞擊某人，那就不是乾淨的做法。」
