Dwyane Wade says doctors told the Heat he would only have 5 good years after getting his meniscus removed at 19

“Doc said he told the Heat, ‘he will have 5 good years. Then after that the knee would become an issue. He wasn’t lying. Had about 5 good years then my knee became an issue. I had multiple knee surgeries after that. I have an incredible tolerance for pain. I played through things I know a lot of guys wouldn’t play through. I found a way to still be effective knowing I couldn’t do certain things… my first few years I didn’t know it’d be an issue

because I was still really explosive. I was like ‘what meniscus?’ I felt like rookie of the year”

他還說：“醫生後來在我職業生涯中告訴我，選秀結束後，他跟球隊說我大概只有五個健康賽季。他說過了那五年，我的膝蓋就會出問題。他沒有騙我。我確實打了大概五個好賽季，然後膝蓋就真的出問題了。那之後我做了好幾次膝蓋手術。”

韋德最後表示：「我對疼痛的忍耐力很驚人。我知道很多球員根本撐不下來的傷病，我都硬撐著打了下來。我學會了在明知道自己做不了某些動作的情況下，依然保持成功。剛進聯盟那幾年，我什至沒意識到這會成為問題，因為那時候我的爆發力還很強。”
