Today, we’re diving into some trivia on 6-foot-1 veteran guard Mike Conley, whom the Celtics signed July 6.

Conley is the son of Olympic gold medalist Mike Conley Sr., who captured triple jump crown at the 1992 Olympics. That same year, Conley Sr. showcased those jumping skills at the 1992 Foot Locker Celebrity Dunk Contest when he set the record for the longest dunk ever by soaring from six inches beyond the free-throw line to win the competition.

Conley’s early basketball career was closely intertwined with that of former No. 1 overall pick Greg Oden. The pair starred together at Lawrence North in Indianapolis – also the alma mater of former Celtic Eric Montross – where they won three state championships. They then spent one season together at Ohio State, leading the Buckeyes to the 2007 NCAA National Championship Game before falling to Al Horford’s Florida Gators.

However, their careers took very different paths from there, as Oden’s journey was derailed by injuries, limiting him to three seasons, while Conley is now preparing to enter his 20th campaign.

Known for his outstanding sportsmanship, Conley has never received a

technical foul in 1,355 combined regular season and playoff games. He owns a record four NBA Sportsmanship Awards, as well as two Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Awards, an honor that was earned last season by his new teammate, Derrick White.

Kevin Durant and Jeff Green are also active members of that draft class, but each missed a full season, leaving them each at 18 seasons played. Of the four, Durant is the only one to have not been a member of the Celtics.

Conley enters the season just 14 made 3-pointers shy of becoming the 20th player in NBA history to reach 2,000 career triples. He needs only three makes to pass Jason Kidd into 20th place on the league’s all-time 3-point list. If Conley maintains his 38.7-percent accuracy from beyond the arc, he would own the ninth-highest 3-point percentage among players with at least 2,000 made 3-pointers – one spot ahead of his new Celtics teammate Paul

George, who has made 2,449 career threes while shooting 38.4 percent.
