(4) @BryanHoch: Aaron Boone said DJ LeMahieu was willing to begin working at 3B again, but the position had been too physically demanding for him. There were lengthy discussions yesterday and today between LeMahieu, Boone and Brian Cashman. LeMahieu didn’t ask for his release and is not happy with the

outcome.

(5) @BryanHoch: Aaron Boone says he sees a combination of Oswald Peraza, Jorbit Vivas and JC Escarra at third base moving forward.

Of course, that can change. 3B is high on the wish list ahead of the Trade Deadline.

(6) @BryanHoch: Jeimer Candelario and Nicky Lopez - two infielders with MLB experience - are viewed as Triple-A depth, Aaron Boone said.

(7) @BryanHoch: Brian Cashman on Trade Deadline needs: “I’m definitely going to be looking for upgrades if I can. That doesn’t guarantee anything. We’ve lost three starters out of our World Series rotation so far this year, so I’ve got to look and see if I can find a starter.

“I’d certainly love to import a starter, some relievers because our bullpen has been taxed with injuries, and an infielder if possible. That’s a long list. I don’t know if this will be a deep Deadline or not. I don’t know how active we will be. But I can tell you that we will try to import improvements. That’s the gig.”

(8) @JackCurryYES: LeMahieu was a total pro as a Yankee. A fierce competitor who was a smart and adept contact hitter. Teammates called him a “gamer.” He finished in the top 4 in MVP voting in first 2 Yankee seasons and won a batting title in 2020. But injuries and ineffective play derailed him.

(9) @Joelsherman1: LeMahieu was hitting ball hard but mainly on the ground, swinging and missing more than ever and range at 2b was small. He’s a pro who can still help someone’s bench, but with Stanton only DHing, 3 LHH catchers, LeMahieu made NYY bench too inflexible.

(10) @Joelsherman1: Shouldn’t be lost how brilliant LeMahieu was for the NYY in 2019-20. But to make AAV lower for lux tax purposes, re-signed him for 6 yrs rather than 4 or 5. And age/injuries led to absences/decreased skill. So he will sit as a $15M hit on books for next year too.
